Daily Routine
Evening Routine
Routine (6pm) | Breakdown of routine |
1. Dinner Time | 1) Eat Dinner 2) Gurgle Salt Ryan will gurgle his mouth with salt after dinner. He had been prone to cavities and this is an important preventive activity recommended by his Dentist. |
During this period, Ryan will look for more food or snacks. We put some control over this mainly for health reasons and to ensure that his weight does not balloon.
Here are some of the things Ryan would do, and how we usually respond.
You may also check out this link below on how much he loves food!
Ryan & Food (April 2024)
Things Ryan would do | How we respond | Reason |
---|---|---|
Come down and ask for food on the dinner table |
|
If you do not give him, he will keep coming down looking for food, even throughout the night. |
Ryan asks again after 1 piece |
|
Don’t give in immediately. This encourages him to “earn” his food. |
After dinner |
|
Ryan will often come down at night for food. Leaving items out for him prevents rummaging through cupboards. |
We do this nightly routine just before we switch off the lights in Ryan’s bedroom.
To do in sequence | Breakdown of routine |
1. Take his medication | Refer to updated list at the cupboard where medicine is kept |
2. Brush teeth routine | Makes sure he does all 4 steps – brush teeth, floss, gurgle, wash face – by pointing to the visual when he skips a step |
3. Change into Pyjamas | Change into Pyjamas & put dirty clothes into laundry basket Ryan is fully independent doing this. |
4. Cut Nails and Moisturize hands and feet | Take this basket which contains: · Nail Clipper · QV cream for moisturizing (this is hospital-grade cream for Hydration) Reason: in the past, his skin has dried and cracked (painful) |
5. Pray with Ryan | Do together with Ryan. He knows how to make the sign of the cross. Sometimes need reminder to pause the video (Youtube) Will hold his hand in prayer position as you recite the prayer. “In the name of Father, Son & the Holy Spirit, Amen. Then say “Jesus…” |
